Hurricane Sandy relentlessly pounded the east coast for the past several days, leaving me practically stranded in my apartment. I was lucky to be minimally affected, and my heart goes out to those less fortunate.

I occupied myself by cooking up a little storm (har har) with my hull from the weekend’s farmer’s market and spoils from the butcher. My quest to use inexpensive, local meat continues, so on the menu this week features cuts that are comparatively cheap.

1. Shredded pork butt with honeycrisp apple slaw

3. Turkey thigh pot pie
